German science and technology company Merck on Thursday opened a new semiconductor materials factory in Eumseong, North Chungcheong Province, South Korea, aiming to expand molybdenum production to meet chipmakers' growing demand for advanced memory chips. The factory will produce molybdenum dichloride dioxide, used for ultra-thin metal film deposition in chip manufacturing, and will supply customers in South Korea and other parts of Asia.
