South Korean Financial Sector Hit by Cyberattack Again, Multiple Institutions Affected
South Korean financial institutions have been hit by a new wave of cyberattacks, highlighting the growing risk of AI-driven hacking in Asia. The latest incidents affected Daishin Securities, Mirae Asset Global Investments, and crypto exchange Bithumb. Daishin Securities reported that personal information of 38,490 customers was leaked. South Korean financial regulators have called for enhanced cybersecurity measures and plan to conduct security checks on dozens of IT systems in the private sector. This attack follows a series of cyberattacks targeting South Korean financial institutions approximately a month ago, which security researchers linked to a suspected Chinese hacker using the AI penetration testing tool Artex. Additionally, Japan also reported a cybersecurity incident at GMO Internet yesterday.
