BTCPay Server Urges Bitcoin Merchants to Change Wallets After Hackers Steal Approximately $1.63 Million in Bitcoin and Litecoin
BTCPay Server, an open-source Bitcoin payment software provider, issued a security advisory on November 2, urging merchants to rebuild outdated payment servers and replace wallets. This follows attackers exploiting a different method of leveraging a vulnerability patched in August, resulting in the theft of approximately $1.63 million in Bitcoin and Litecoin. Blockchain analytics firm Bitquery tracked 682 wallet drains between October 30 and November 2, involving 18.38 Bitcoin and 3,405 Litecoin. BTCPay warned that even with the latest updates installed, funds might still be insecure if hackers have already gained server access, thus recommending migration to a completely new server installation.
