Drone attack hits Khor Mor gas field in Iraqi Kurdistan, slashing power generation by about 2.8 gigawatts
Omid Ahmed, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Electricity in the Kurdistan Regional Government of Iraq, stated that a drone attack on the Khor Mor gas field in Iraq has resulted in a reduction of nearly 2.8 gigawatts in national grid power generation. Ahmed told Kurdistan 24 that gas supplies to power plants in Erbil, Sulaymaniyah, Bazian, Chamchamal, and Duhok were disrupted following the attack. He added that to prevent a widespread blackout across the region, the ministry is supplying power to sensitive and vital locations such as hospitals and water plants by operating hydroelectric power stations at the Dukan and Derbendikhan dams, as well as other fuel-fired power stations.
