A federal lawsuit alleges Apple (AAPL) allowed a fraudulent Bitcoin wallet app, impersonating Sparrow Wallet, to remain on its App Store for over a week after a customer reported losing $875,000 (7.4 BTC) on July 25, 2025. This allegedly led to another user losing roughly $840,000 on Aug. 3, 2025. Three plaintiffs claim a total of approximately $1.84 million was stolen after they downloaded the app and entered their seed phrases.

The lawsuit, filed on July 24, 2026, in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, argues that Apple's marketing led users to believe its App Store applications were vetted and safe. Apple has reportedly told MacRumors that it has taken action to remove any apps impersonating Sparrow Wallet and terminate associated developer accounts.

On Tuesday (July 28), August gold futures opened at $4,083 per ounce, up 0.1% from Monday’s closing price, before falling to $4,027. Gold prices have remained below $4,100 since July 14 and are currently fluctuating within a narrow range ahead of the Federal Reserve’s two-day interest rate meeting. Market expectations for a 25-basis-point rate hike by the Fed have risen from 25.77% last week to 35.8%.

Notably, as the U.S. and Iran attempt to reach a permanent peace agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and resume oil and natural gas exports, U.S. airstrikes against Iran have once again been suspended, causing oil prices to fall nearly 5% over the past five days.

Alphabet now constitutes 7.8% of Berkshire's equity portfolio, making it one of its largest positions. The US Social Security Fairness Act, signed into law in January 2025, repealed the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and the Government Pension Offset (GPO). This change, retroactive to benefits payable from January 2024, restored Social Security benefits for approximately 2.7 million retirees and surviving spouses. The repeal primarily benefits public sector workers like teachers, police, and firefighters who had careers split between jobs covered and not covered by Social Security. Previously, WEP reduced benefits for those receiving a pension from non-Social Security-covered work, while GPO similarly reduced spousal and survivor benefits.

Bitcoin (BTC) dropped approximately 2% during the U.S. session, influenced by two key factors. South Korea's benchmark Kospi stock index plunged 11% due to a tumble in chipmaking stocks, sending shockwaves across global risk assets. Additionally, the U.S. Senate shelved the Crypto Clarity Act, prioritizing a Russia sanctions bill and federal nominations, making the bill's fate uncertain for the year. The market is also anticipating the U.S. Federal Reserve's interest-rate decision on Wednesday.

This comes amid growing concerns over rising competition, including the nearly 470% IPO surge of China's CXMT and reports of Chinese firms developing technology mimicking ASML's offerings. Analysts also point to unease regarding the substantial cash burn by hyperscalers, who are spending hundreds of billions on AI infrastructure, leading to increased debt loads.

The decentralized exchange (DEX) aggregator 1inch has opened its shared liquidity protocol, Aqua, to users; the protocol currently supports 13 Ethereum Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM)-compatible chains. The Aqua protocol allows liquidity providers to keep their assets in their own wallets and use a single balance to maintain multiple positions, without having to spread their funds across different pools. This move aims to address the issue of low liquidity utilization; a study commissioned by 1inch previously found that, in the first half of 2026, 85% of the $1.84 billion in liquidity tracked by major centralized liquidity exchanges was underutilized. To encourage adoption, the 1inch Foundation has committed 10 million 1INCH tokens, and the 1inch DAO has contributed an additional $500,000 in USDC, jointly launching a three-month liquidity incentive program with a total value of approximately $1.37 million.
