The Italian insurer Unipol aims to own more than 30% of a new banking entity formed by combining BPER Banca with assets carved out from Monte dei Paschi di Siena (MPS). Unipol has an agreement to acquire approximately 635 MPS branches and central functions from Intesa Sanpaolo, contingent on Intesa's successful takeover of MPS. Unipol plans to merge these operations with BPER, where it is already the largest shareholder. The payment for the MPS carve-out is capped at €3.5 billion ($4.04 billion), to be funded by Unipol's surplus capital generation and a planned €2.5 billion capital increase expected by year-end.

Resmed's shares fell by around 7% after the company projected fiscal year 2027 (FY27) revenue in the range of $5.75 billion to $5.85 billion, which is below analysts' expectations of $5.92 billion. The softer outlook is attributed to suspended ventilator sales following a US FDA Class 1 recall, ongoing macro uncertainty, and inflation in electronic components and freight. The company expects a $75 million headwind in FY27 due to the suspension of Astral ventilator sales.

Fast fashion retailer Shein disclosed in its initial public offering (IPO) filings that its sales in the U.S. market have declined due to new tariff policies forcing it to raise prices to offset costs. The company warned that a similar situation could unfold in the European market, posing a threat to its low-price business model.

Shein stated in the filings that starting in May 2025, the company began passing on most of the additional tariff costs to U.S. consumers, which negatively impacted net revenue in the U.S. market for the remainder of 2025. Between 2024 and 2025, Shein's revenue in the U.S. dropped by over 3%, with first-quarter sales plummeting 14% year-over-year.

In Europe, the EU recently abolished the tax exemption for low-value parcels and implemented a new flat rate, which Shein expects could have an even greater impact on its profitability. In 2025, the European market contributed 35% of Shein's revenue. Angela Lee, a professor at Columbia Business School, pointed out that these regulatory changes pose a serious risk to Shein's business model because its core competency lies in low prices, and this advantage is disappearing. Faced with slowing growth and profit pressure, Shein is striving to develop third-party marketplaces and commercialize its supply chain services, with these high-margin businesses growing by nearly 40% in 2025.

US stock futures were largely unchanged at the start of a week featuring key inflation data and earnings reports. Futures on the Dow Jones Industrial Average edged lower by 0.1%, while S&P 500 and Nasdaq-100 futures saw slight gains. Investors are in a wait-and-see mode, monitoring Iran's announcement that a deal to open the Strait of Hormuz is "very close," which has led to Brent crude futures trading slightly higher at $84 per barrel. The upcoming Consumer Price Index (CPI) reading on Wednesday is also a major focus, with Federal Reserve officials remaining divided on interest rate policy amid ongoing oil price shocks and inflation concerns.

Bloom Energy (NYSE: BE) will deploy fuel cell systems for an islanded microgrid at MiTAC Computing Technology's AI server manufacturing campus in Fremont, California. This expansion of an existing partnership highlights Bloom Energy's growing role in providing rapidly deployable onsite power solutions for AI infrastructure. The company currently supplies approximately 250 megawatts (MW) of contracted capacity to nearly two dozen AI infrastructure firms. Additionally, cloud giant Oracle expanded its strategic partnership with Bloom in April to deploy up to 2.8 gigawatts (GW), and global investment firm Brookfield Asset Management expanded its AI partnership fivefold to $25 billion in June.

CNBC commentator Mike Santoli analyzed that the S&P 500 index, after oscillating within a 3% range for nearly three months, achieved a breakthrough, hitting historical highs three times last week and surpassing 7750 points on Friday. He believes that the decline in momentum stocks and the pressure faced by large tech platforms in July were almost entirely offset by the strength of other sectors. Furthermore, the speech by Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh in July was interpreted by the market as a "scare and relief" sequence, providing momentum for the index's breakthrough.

Egypt's 2026/2027 economic and social development strategy aims to increase oil and gas production, attract new investment, and reduce petroleum imports. The plan also includes receiving natural gas from Cyprus and re-exporting it to global markets, enhancing Egypt's role as a regional energy hub. The petroleum sector saw growth return in the third quarter of the 2025/2026 fiscal year, with a 0.7% increase in June 2026, marking its first positive quarterly growth since Q1 2023/2024.

The changes, set to be officially announced on October 14, include an estimated 3.8% cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) for all beneficiaries, which could add approximately $79 per month to the average retirement benefit. Additionally, the income required to earn a Social Security credit will increase from $1,890 in 2026, and the payroll tax cap will rise from the current $184,500. The earnings test limits, which can reduce benefits for those working below full retirement age, will also be adjusted upwards from the 2026 thresholds of $24,480 and $65,160.

Geoff Kendrick, Standard Chartered Bank's Head of Digital Assets Research, initiated coverage on Chainlink in a report and set this price target. The report states that the value of on-chain tokenized assets is expected to grow 12-fold from approximately $340 billion currently to $4 trillion by the end of 2028, while assets deployed in DeFi are projected to increase 37-fold to $2.7 trillion by 2030. As Chainlink charges fees for providing data and transferring assets between different chains, the bank anticipates its fees to grow approximately 25-fold during this period, assuming the token price will rise with the fees. The report also mentions that Chainlink currently has over $110 billion in total value locked, covering about 70% of the oracle-dependent value in global DeFi. The bank has previously provided price predictions for other DeFi projects such as Uniswap and Aave.

The board of directors of storage chip manufacturer Sandisk has approved an additional $14 billion stock repurchase program, bringing its total remaining repurchase authorization to $15.5 billion, which accounts for approximately 8.6% of the company's current market capitalization. This move comes after the company reported strong fourth-quarter financial results, with revenue growing 372% year-over-year to $8.97 billion, a gross profit margin of 84.6%, and full-year net profit reaching $11.4 billion.
06:31
TSMC announced its July revenue was NT$467.58 billion (approximately US$14.5 billion), a year-over-year increase of 44.7%, exceeding the company's full-year revenue growth guidance of 40%. As a chip supplier for tech giants such as NVIDIA and Google, TSMC's financial data is considered an important indicator of AI semiconductor demand. Despite the high volatility in semiconductor industry demand, TSMC Chairman C.C. Wei stated that AI-related demand remains strong. Previously, TSMC noted in its second-quarter earnings report that high-performance computing (to which AI chip sales are attributed) accounted for 66% of its revenue.
