MANA is the native ERC-20 utility token of the Decentraland virtual reality platform, which operates on the Ethereum blockchain. Users in Decentraland can use MANA to purchase virtual land (LAND NFTs), virtual goods and services, customize avatars, and participate in platform governance voting. The project was founded in 2015 by Esteban Ordano and Ariel Meilich.
MANA's Uses and Mechanisms
MANA's core functions are closely tied to the Decentraland ecosystem:
- Purchasing Virtual Assets: MANA is the primary means of payment for purchasing LAND NFTs (representing virtual land ownership) and various virtual goods and services within the platform.
- Participating in Governance: MANA holders have the right to vote on governance proposals such as platform policy updates and LAND auction rules.
- Token Burn Mechanism: At the project's launch, MANA had a fixed supply of 2.8 billion tokens. During the first LAND sale, over 600 million MANA were permanently burned, linking the token supply to community activity.
As of October 2025, over 2.1 million users have participated in the Decentraland ecosystem, with over 8 million MANA transfers recorded on-chain.

How to Buy and Trade MANA
As an Ethereum ERC-20 token, MANA can be traded on numerous major cryptocurrency exchanges. Here are the general steps for purchasing:
- Choose an Exchange Platform: Select a cryptocurrency exchange that supports MANA trading and complies with regulations in your region. You can check MANA's real-time price and market depth on market platforms like Svmuu to aid your decision.
- Register and Verify: Register an account on the chosen platform and complete identity verification (KYC) as required.
- Fund Your Account: Deposit funds into your exchange account via bank transfer, credit/debit card, or by depositing other cryptocurrencies (such as USDT, USDC).
- Place an Order: Search for the MANA trading pair (e.g., MANA/USDT, MANA/USDC) on the exchange, enter the desired purchase quantity and price, then confirm and execute the order.
- Secure Storage: After purchasing, you can choose to keep your MANA in the custodial wallet provided by the exchange, or for enhanced security, transfer it to a self-custody Web3 wallet like MetaMask or a hardware wallet.
Please note that the cryptocurrency market is highly volatile, and investments carry risks. Investors are advised to make decisions cautiously based on their risk tolerance and to verify the platform's latest listing status and compliance before trading.
