Democratic lawmakers plan to introduce legislation this week regarding prediction markets to prohibit government officials from profiting from insider information
According to Business Insider, after an insider reportedly made hundreds of thousands of dollars by accurately betting on the political future of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, a congressman is attempting to prevent government officials from engaging in similar activities. A spokesperson for New York Democratic Representative Ritchie Torres said Torres plans to introduce a bill this week titled the "Financial Prediction Markets Public Integrity Act of 2026." The bill would prohibit federally elected officials, political appointees, and executive branch employees from trading on prediction markets when they possess non-public information relevant to such trades or are in a position to obtain such information through their official duties.
