Donald Trump Due to policy changes, Volkswagen and Audi sales in the U.S. have plummeted
In the fourth quarter, U.S. sales of vehicles from the Volkswagen and Audi brands—both part of the Volkswagen Group—declined, as Donald Trump’s tariff policies and his 180-degree shift on electric vehicle policy took a toll on Europe’s largest automaker.Sales of the German automaker’s eponymous brand fell by one-fifth in the three months ending in December, as demand plummeted for models including the Atlas SUV and the Jetta sedan. Volkswagen’s annual sales dropped by 13%. Audi’s sales fell by more than a third last quarter, with annual sales down 16%.Volkswagen’s poor performance in the U.S. has made CEO Oliver Blume’s efforts to restructure the automaker even more urgent.
