New Solana Proposal Aims to Boost Daily SOL Burns from $47,000 to $650,000 and Double Disinflation Rate
The Solana Governance Proposal (SGP-0003) bundles two changes: SIMD-0553, which introduces resource-based fees to significantly increase daily SOL burns, and SIMD-0550, which doubles the annual disinflation rate to 30%. This would bring Solana's 1.5% terminal inflation floor forward to 2029 from 2032 and remove approximately 18.9 million SOL ($1.36 billion) in emissions over six years. Validators began signaling support this week, with 24.94 million SOL (5.8% of staked SOL) currently committed. The proposal needs an additional 39.95 million SOL ($2.9 billion) in validator support by August 18 to reach the 15% threshold required for a formal vote.
