Frank Mwiti, CEO of the Nairobi Securities Exchange, announced that the exchange is creating East Africa's first exchange-traded fund (ETF) focused on AI stocks, with plans to make it available to investors by the end of this year. The ETF's underlying assets will reflect companies with direct exposure to AI, such as Microsoft, Anthropic, and OpenAI. Mwiti noted that while Kenyan investors can already access AI-related products through overseas markets, the exchange aims to simplify trading with a local product to meet the demand for AI products from younger investors. The exchange is discussing this proposal with market regulators and stated that it will closely monitor global AI market trends, potentially delaying the launch if there is a risk of a bubble.
Kenya's Nairobi Securities Exchange plans to launch East Africa's first AI-themed ETF by year-end.
