China's Ministry of Commerce announced a broad set of trade countermeasures on Wednesday in response to recent US restrictions on China. The specific measures include: prohibiting seven US companies and organizations from conducting business with Chinese entities, tightening controls on the export of drones and related technologies to the US, and banning Chinese companies from cooperating with US compliance and certification bodies, including mandatory inspections of Chinese factories. This marks China's broadest set of countermeasures since the trade truce in October last year. In addition, Chinese authorities have also launched their first national security investigation in the foreign trade sector, targeting imported printing and copying equipment with foreign software installed. The Eurasia Group noted that these measures mark the first time Beijing has sanctioned companies assisting in the enforcement of the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act, which has a "significant impact" on US companies in China.
