Gaza Farmers Rebuild with Small-Scale Projects as Over 87% of Agricultural Land Destroyed
Despite more than 87% of Gaza's agricultural land being destroyed and annual production plummeting from 524,000 tonnes to 20,000 tonnes, farmers are turning to greenhouses and rented plots to restart their livelihoods. One farmer, Mohammad al-Halabi, lost his 40,000-square-meter land in February 2024 and now cultivates a 300-square-meter rented plot. Another, Mohammad Abdul Naser Hassan al-Jadba, established a nursery and greenhouse with funding, earning around $1,015 monthly and employing two others.
