In its Q2 2026 investor letter, Eagle Capital Management stated that Micron, as the sole DRAM memory producer in the US, has seen its profitability surge from thin margins to surpassing Apple and Microsoft. The firm also noted that the current high memory prices have impacted the consumer electronics market and prompted AI model companies and chip manufacturers to redesign their technologies. However, Eagle Capital Management believes that due to the long depreciation period for semiconductor equipment, Micron's current earnings might overstate its potential economic benefits, and free cash flow growth remains weak. The firm anticipates that competition and increased capacity among AI labs, hyperscalers, and the semiconductor industry will eventually lead to a shakeout. Therefore, it is reallocating capital to attractive opportunities outside of popular AI trades.
