ECB President Christine Lagarde stated that this impressive number demonstrates Europeans' strong interest in their future banknotes, and public participation in the redesign process is a crucial step in preparing for the next series of banknotes. The survey, conducted from July 23 to September 21, 2026, aimed to gather public opinions on ten shortlisted design themes under "European culture" and "rivers and birds." The ECB's Governing Council is expected to make a decision on the final design concept for future euro banknotes around the end of 2026, with the new banknotes anticipated to gradually enter circulation in the early 2030s.
