Tesla CEO Musk announced the company's plans to enter the heavy-duty truck market. The factory will focus on the mass production of the Semi electric truck, which debuted in 2017 and began limited deliveries to early customers, including PepsiCo, in 2022. This factory opening comes as Tesla's core EV business faces intensifying global competition, and soaring diesel costs present a potential opportunity for commercial trucks to transition to electric vehicles. Additionally, the industry consortium ZET SCALE has selected Tesla as its primary OEM, with an initial order for 2,500 Semi trucks and a goal to order over 10,000 electric trucks from multiple suppliers. Trucking company Einride also stated it has agreed to order 500 Tesla Semi trucks.
