SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won stated in July that a US factory is needed due to "enormous pressure" from customers and governments to increase memory chip supply. The company is already preparing a US production base for its high-value AI memory, with a more than $4 billion Indiana plant breaking ground last month. This plant will process advanced DRAM wafers made in South Korea for later-stage production.
