The US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is expected to issue a construction permit on Tuesday for the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) to build an initial 300-megawatt small nuclear reactor at its Clinch River site in Tennessee. This approval is seen as an important sign of progress for the fission industry. TVA is reportedly considering as many as four BWRX-300 reactors from GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy, though this permit is only for the initial system.
