Rashad al-Alimi, head of Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council, announced on Sunday the start of military operations to retake remaining Houthi-held territory and restore state authority. The campaign follows intensified fighting since a truce collapsed in July, and comes after Houthis seized the strategic port city of Mocha and islands in the Bab al-Mandeb strait, a vital route for global oil shipments.
