CATL's A-shares rose over 5% intraday today, closing up approximately 3.84%. In the preceding two months, market concerns that automakers' in-house battery development would impact CATL's orders and pricing led to a cumulative share price decline of over 20%. Li Auto has disclosed that its new generation MEGA will switch from CATL batteries to self-developed batteries, and Xiaomi has also announced joint battery development with Sunwanda and CALB. XPeng Motors develops its own battery pack structure while still procuring battery cells externally. Leapmotor has delved deep into battery cell production, with its joint venture factory in operation, claiming that self-developed battery cells can reduce costs by about 10%. Geely Auto has adjusted its battery factory projects, with the goal of 50% battery self-sufficiency remaining. Industry observers believe that automakers will renegotiate prices once they gain a deeper understanding of batteries. Despite this, SNE Research data shows that CATL's global power battery usage increased by 26.6% year-on-year in the first seven months of this year, with its market share rising to 39.9%. Furthermore, its overseas business and energy storage business have performed strongly, boasting cost advantages and high capacity utilization. CATL itself has also begun to expand into the complete vehicle sector, collaborating with Turkish automaker Togg to develop a chassis platform.
