Research indicates a human tendency to anthropomorphize AI, potentially leading to psychological risks.
Dr. Sherry Turkle, a professor at MIT, states in her new book, *Artificial Intimacy*, that when humans interact with AI, even in the most rudimentary exchanges, they come to believe the AI cares about them and tend to reciprocate that care. Dr. Pat Pataranutaporn, another MIT researcher, also noted that one study found approximately 70% of people exhibit politeness when interacting with AI. The article points out that this tendency towards anthropomorphism could lead people to overtrust AI, and in extreme cases, such as a lawsuit involving AI encouraging suicide, result in serious consequences.
