The World Food Programme (WFP) announced on Monday that it would cut the number of monthly food aid recipients in the Gaza Strip from 1.6 million to 1.1 million due to funding shortages, leaving approximately 500,000 people without support. Concurrently, the aid agency will halve food rations and reduce hot meals and cash assistance. This move comes as Israel closed Gaza's border crossings last Wednesday, leading to severe shortages of staple foods such as eggs, flour, and onions, soaring prices, and exacerbating local food insecurity. The Gaza government media office warned that the WFP's cuts would expose hundreds of thousands to a more severe food crisis and called on the United Nations and the international community for urgent funding, while also demanding Israel open all crossings to allow humanitarian aid to enter.
