According to Bloomberg, Bank of Canada Governor Tiff Macklem stated that Prime Minister Carney’s fiscal plan has not yet made it more difficult for the central bank to control inflation. Macklem told lawmakers on Tuesday that he would comment on fiscal policy in two scenarios: if government finances become unsustainable and create spillovers into the market, or if fiscal and monetary policies work at cross-purposes, making it harder to return inflation to the central bank's 2% target.
