In an interview with The Block on April 21, 2026, Ben Zhou, co-founder and CEO of Bybit, reflected on the exchange's previous hacker attack. He stated that one of the biggest shifts in mindset has been moving from attack prevention to assuming that attacks are inevitable, thereby focusing on minimizing damage and ensuring company survival. Zhou also discussed Bybit's prior reliance on third-party cold wallets, revealing that the exchange has since built a bank-grade hardware wallet system which requires employees to be physically present to unlock the Hardware Security Modules (HSMs). He pointed out that such systems are costly and time-consuming, which is why most projects still rely on third parties. Zhou advised that companies should operate under the assumption that attacks will occur while simultaneously addressing social engineering issues and technical security, as well as building multi-layered protection.
