Driven by the Democratic Party's landslide victory in the US midterm elections and its seizure of control of Congress, markets grew concerned over tightening regulations and the outlook for AI investments. As a result, tech-heavy markets in Japan and South Korea faced heavy sell-offs, with the Nikkei Index closing down 1,110 points, or 1.79%, at 61,077, and the KOSPI Index plunging 300 points, or 5.28%, to 5,383, marking a seven-month closing low. Meanwhile, Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index rallied sharply, closing up 877 points, or 3.7%, at 24,796, while the Tech Index surged 5.5% to 4,154. Mainland Chinese stocks also closed generally higher with modest gains.
