On December 31, the Russian Ministry of Defense released a video in which Major General Romanenko, Commander of the Air and Space Forces’ Air Defense Missile Forces, described the recent drone attack on the Russian presidential residence. Romanenko stated that between December 28 and 29, 2025, Ukrainian forces attempted to carry out a terrorist attack on the Russian presidential residence in the Novgorod region, making extensive use of long-range attack drones. Romanenko stated that during the air defense operations, Russian air defense forces successfully destroyed all incoming Ukrainian drones. To intercept this large-scale strike over the Bryansk, Smolensk, and Novgorod regions, the Russian military deployed air defense missile systems, mobile fire units, and electronic warfare equipment. Romanenko noted that the structure of the attack, the number of aerial strike assets deployed, and the flight paths—which targeted the Russian presidential residence directly from the south, southwest, and west—fully demonstrate that this attack launched by Ukraine was deliberate, meticulously planned, and characterized by wave-based strikes. Romanenko stated that this terrorist attack was successfully thwarted, with no casualties or property damage within Russia, and the Russian presidential residence remained undamaged. (CCTV News)
