The Iraqi government has temporarily closed three border crossings with Iran while investigating drone attacks on Saudi Arabia's East-West oil pipeline, confirming the attacks were launched from within Iraq. Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Zaidi has dismissed the military commander of Maysan province and approved Iran's request for a joint investigation into the presence of drone launching platforms in the border region. Saudi Arabia previously accused Iran-backed armed groups in Iraq of attacking its oil infrastructure. US President Donald Trump stated that Iran "likely" was behind the attacks but provided no evidence. The East-West pipeline, Saudi Arabia's only major alternative route for oil exports bypassing the Strait of Hormuz, was preventatively shut down after the attack.
