UK challenger bank Monument Bank plans to tokenize up to £250M ($335M) in retail deposits, aiming to bridge gap between institutional and consumer tokenization
While Wall Street giants like JPMorgan and Citi process trillions in tokenized deposits and cross-border payments, these services are largely restricted to institutional clients or internal networks. Monument Bank, with a $2.4 billion balance sheet, intends to offer interest-bearing tokenized savings accounts to retail customers on the privacy-focused Midnight blockchain. These deposits will be fully backed and protected by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme, allowing consumers access to tokenized investments without needing to understand crypto.
