Expedia CEO says AI agents have not yet changed consumer booking habits, but remains optimistic about the industry's transformation potential
Expedia CEO says AI agents have not yet changed consumer booking habits, but remains optimistic about the industry's transformation potential. In an interview with CNBC, Expedia CEO Ariane Gorin stated that while AI agents provide an excellent way for inspiration and itinerary planning, the company has not yet seen them alter actual booking methods. She pointed out that the customer service complexities in the travel industry, such as content correctness, price accuracy, and after-sales support, will still be difficult for AI to completely replace in the short term. Expedia previously released a fourth-quarter revenue guidance below analyst expectations, triggering a drop of about 12% in its stock price on Thursday.
