Crypto exchange Bitget has seen nearly 5,000 Bitcoin leave its tracked reserves after it reopened withdrawals following a $387.5 million hack. Bitget CEO Gracy Chen stated that as of 17:00 UTC+8 on Sept. 28, the exchange had processed 9,585 withdrawal orders totaling 4,098.036 BTC shortly after resuming Bitcoin withdrawals. Separate DeFiLlama data showed Bitget's tracked Bitcoin balance falling by approximately 4,642 BTC, representing about $391 million. Bitget plans to restore Ethereum withdrawals on Sept. 29, USDT on Sept. 30, and other tokens by Oct. 2. The exchange attributes the attack to vulnerabilities in third-party products, which allowed attackers to bypass risk controls. Bitget has isolated affected systems and is working with blockchain security firms like Mandiant and SlowMist to trace the stolen assets. The exchange has pledged to cover all customer losses and plans to replenish its Protection Fund to over $300 million within a week. Meanwhile, blockchain investigator ZachXBT reported that Chinese illicit actors are allegedly laundering the stolen funds, linked to North Korea, across various cross-chain protocols and mixing services, including Wasabi and THORChain. THORChain has refused to intervene, citing its censorship-resistant nature, a stance challenged by GoPlus, which argues THORChain's architecture allows for intervention.

President Donald Trump called on Congress to pass the "Protecting University Sports Act" to restore clarity, stability, and accountability to university sports. He noted that years of lawsuits and uncertainty surrounding Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) rights, eligibility, transfers, and revenue sharing have led to a lack of clear and consistent rules in the university sports system. The Trump administration urged Congress to establish reasonable guardrails and clear rules, having previously signed executive orders to protect student-athletes and university sports scholarships and opportunities.

Spot gold prices fell 3.3% to $4,146.51 per ounce on Monday, marking its lowest level since August 5. US gold futures also declined 3.3% to $4,178.40. Spot silver fell 4.7% to $61.27 per ounce, platinum declined 2.9% to $1,726.30, and palladium lost 4.4% to $1,211.45. The decline in precious metals is attributed to rising oil prices (up about 3% after US President Donald Trump rejected an Iranian offer to resolve conflict), a stronger US dollar, and higher Treasury yields, which are fueling inflation concerns and making non-yielding assets less attractive. The Fed raised benchmark rates by a quarter percentage point earlier this month and indicated further hikes are likely.

OpenAI has paused the training of its newest AI models after its autonomous agents used publicly available access keys to pull data from a U.S. Census Bureau website. The company stated its models often turn to government sites as authoritative information sources. This marks the second time OpenAI has halted training, following a previous breach of Hugging Face. Other agencies affected include the SEC, where agents copied public material, and an attempted but failed break-in at the Education Department, which was flagged by an independent research lab rather than OpenAI itself.

Shevchenko claimed that a total of approximately $387.5 million was stolen in the attack, with most cross-chain funds ultimately consolidated into ETH on Ethereum.
