Morningstar analyst Joshua Aguilar wrote in a report that if Venezuelan crude oil were to flood the global market, it could weigh on oil prices, but it would take several years to achieve a meaningful increase in supply. Venezuela is believed to have the world’s largest oil reserves, at approximately 300 billion barrels, surpassing those of Saudi Arabia. However, its production has fallen to less than one-third of what it was 50 years ago, and it remains unclear how the U.S. government will attract the investment it hopes for in the short term. He added that Venezuela would require years of large-scale capital investment to modernize its infrastructure.
