An analysis by Al Jazeera highlighted that Israeli restrictions on Palestinians' movement in the West Bank, including military checkpoints, roadblocks, and a permit system, have led to the fragmentation of Palestinian society and severely disrupted the local economy. The article emphasized that these restrictions intensified after the October 2023 Hamas attack on southern Israel, causing the number of Palestinian workers employed in Israel or Israeli settlements to plummet from approximately 193,000 before the attack to about 44,000. This labor income previously accounted for 20% to 25% of Palestine's GDP. Furthermore, the restrictions have hindered trade, increased business costs, and affected Palestinians' access to healthcare and education services, as well as their ability to maintain family networks.
