Marvell executives recently stated at the Six Five Summit 2026 that the AI hashrate race is evolving from a chip-centric competition to a system-level game. Copper interconnects are nearing their performance limits, and memory demand is rapidly expanding due to inference models. Company executives Will Chu and Dave Lazovsky indicated that optical interconnects and memory expansion technologies (such as photonic fabric memory and CXL) are becoming core variables for the next phase of hashrate expansion. They project global data center infrastructure cumulative capital expenditure to reach $4 to $5 trillion between 2025 and 2030. Marvell is advancing Near-Package Optics (NPO) and Co-Packaged Optics (CPO) solutions, emphasizing that their analog SerDes technology can reduce power consumption by approximately 4 times and overall energy consumption by over 25%. The company is also addressing memory bottlenecks through high-density SRAM IP, 3D stacking, and photonic fabric memory devices. The latter can provide an external memory pool of 32TB within an independent rack space, enabling independent expansion of memory capacity and bandwidth.
