Boeing discovered a software glitch last month in some 737 Max aircraft that could affect the automatic vertical navigation function after the planes return to service, requiring pilots to take additional steps during subsequent approaches. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) stated on Saturday that it is evaluating the issue and will review Boeing's proposed fix. There are currently 2,430 Max aircraft in service globally, but major U.S. airlines claim that their fleets do not include the affected Max 8 and Max 9 models. The FAA certified the Max 7 model with the latest software in early August, and certification for the Max 10 is also expected soon. This issue comes after the 737 Max series faced years of delays following two fatal crashes in 2018 and 2019.
