On January 5 local time at the 2026 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), U.S. electric vehicle manufacturer Lucid, autonomous driving technology company Nuro, and Uber unveiled production models to be used in their global autonomous taxi service. According to the announcement, road testing of the autonomous vehicles began last month. Led by Nuro, the testing will initially take place in the San Francisco Bay Area using engineering prototypes of the autonomous taxis, which will be supervised by autonomous vehicle operators. Once final validation is complete, production of this autonomous taxi model is expected to begin later this year at Lucid’s factory in Arizona.
